OAE Foundations of Reading Study Guide

Ohio Assessments for Educators: Foundations of Reading is a computer-based test that includes 100 multiple-choice questions and two written assignments. The total testing time allotted is four hours.

Alternative testing arrangements are available for examinees with disabilities covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act, those whose primary language is not English, and examinees who are nursing.

If you require such accommodations, it is important to have all of the required documentation to prove your need, before registering. Once this is in place and you register, include notification that you will be requesting alternative arrangements. Submit your alternative testing arrangements form, and wait for the email that tells you if you have been approved or denied.

Some of the accommodations that you can apply for include extended testing time, separate testing room, and a test in a different language from the standard English. When completing the alternative arrangements form, you will have the opportunity to list any other accommodations you may require.

How Can I Prepare for the OAE Foundations of Reading Test?

That’s a great question.  We’ve broken down the answer into three parts.

  1. Do yourself a favor and study.  Do not walk in unprepared. We have recommended prep materials below, but that only helps if you actually try.  Plus, studying is actually proven to be the best antidote to test anxiety.
  2. Take care of yourself.  Make sure you’re eating well, exercising, and sleeping.  All of these things are scientifically linked to brain performance.  If you take care of your body, you’ll be helping your grades.
  3. Get a study guide or set of flashcards.  Some people study better a certain way. Find your study strengths and make the most of them.  We’ve tried to make it easy for you by tracking down the best study guide and flashcard set for your exam.  Below you’ll see links to both!
