CJBAT Test

The purpose
of the CJBAT system is to evaluate whether or not the candidate has the
fundamental skills necessary to serve as a law enforcement or correctional
officer.

The law enforcement and correctional officer exams are administered using paper/pencil and via computer. Each test is 1.5 hours long and consist of 97 questions.

If you
require special testing arrangements for a health/medical condition, be sure to
contact the test center before registering for the exam to ensure you follow
its procedure for making this request.

Typically, some
accommodations that can be made include extended testing time, a separate
testing room, magnifier, and the use of a medical device in the testing room.

Some minor
accommodations that typically do not require pre-approval include medical the
use of bandages, cough drops, eye drops, eyeglasses, hearing aid, inhaler,
surgical mask, nasal drops, seat pillow/cushion.

What are the competencies and sections on these exams?

Minimum Competencies in the CJBAT:

  • Written Comprehension
  • Written Expression
  • Memorization
  • Deductive Reasoning
  • Inductive Reasoning
  • Personal Characteristics/Behavioral Attributes

Sections in the CJBAT:

Section I (47 Questions)

Includes job-related behavioral attributes to measure how well you would do as an officer. You will have 20 minutes to complete this section.

Section II (10 Questions)

Includes questions asking you to look at pictures, then answer questions about them from memory. You will have 1 1/2 minutes per picture.

Section III (40 Questions)

Includes questions that address four cognitive abilities. These abilities are written expression, written comprehension, deductive reasoning, and inductive reasoning. You will have an hour to complete this section.

What is the most convenient way to register for this exam?

Many test centers offer online registration, while others prefer you to register in person. Consult with your testing center.

What is the cost of the exam?

The cost of the exam is $39.

What are the testing dates and locations?

The tests are offered at various testing centers throughout the state of Florida. Contact the location at which you would like to take the test for specific testing dates.

What should I do the day of the exam?

Arrive at the test site on time. Being late will prevent you from being able to take the exam.

Bring a form of identification that includes your name, signature, and photo. Examples of valid ID include a driver’s license and passport. Invalid identification will prohibit you from sitting for the exam.

Items that are not allowed into the testing area include a calculator or cell phone. Generally, objects such as a purse, briefcase, and bookbag must be placed under your desk. You will not be allowed success to these items during the exam.

Since you are given points for correct answers, but points are not taken away for incorrect answers, if you are not completely sure about the answer to a question, it is still best to make an educated guess.

What happens after I take the exam?

Your score report will be given to you before you leave the testing center. It will indicate whether you have passed or failed the exam.

What happens if I do not pass the exam?

You are allowed to re-take the test without a waiting period. You are allowed to take each test up to three times in a one-year period.

How Can I Prepare for the CJBAT Test?

That’s a great question.  We’ve broken down the answer into three parts.

  1. Do yourself a favor and study.  Do not walk in unprepared. We have recommended prep materials below, but that only helps if you actually try.  Plus, studying is actually proven to be the best antidote to test anxiety.
  2. Take care of yourself.  Make sure you’re eating well, exercising, and sleeping.  All of these things are scientifically linked to brain performance.  If you take care of your body, you’ll be helping your grades.
