NCLEX-RN is a licensing examination for nurses created by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). The exam serves as a tool used by nursing regulatory agencies to assess candidates’ preparedness to practice safely as registered nurses at the entry level.

Registration/Times/Locations
To take the NCLEX-RN®, you must first apply for licensure or registration with the nursing regulatory body where you want to practice. You must also register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE.
After your nursing regulatory body determines that you are eligible, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT). Once you have your ATT, you can schedule your exam appointment through Pearson VUE.
Test Day
Plan to arrive early and bring valid identification that matches the name used during registration. Personal items are not allowed in the testing room. An on-screen calculator and erasable note board or similar testing materials will be provided.
The NCLEX includes optional breaks, but the total five-hour testing time includes all breaks.
Test Scores
The NCLEX-RN® is reported as pass or fail. Candidates do not receive a numerical score.
Official results are released by the nursing regulatory body, not by Pearson VUE or NCSBN. Results are generally available within six weeks. In some U.S. jurisdictions, unofficial Quick Results may be available after 48 hours for a fee.

Retaking the NCLEX-RN
If you do not pass the NCLEX-RN®, you may retake the exam, but you must wait at least 45 days before testing again. You will need to follow the retake requirements of your nursing regulatory body and pay any required fees.
