Praxis II Exam

Prospective teachers are often required to take one of the Praxis II exams in order to obtain licensure or certification in their jurisdiction. In order to determine whether an exam is required in a given state, individuals should consult the state Department of Education. At present, 44 states require teachers to take at least one of the Praxis series exams. The content of each exam is based on a series of job analyses which aim to outline the precise content and knowledge required by a practicing teacher in a given subject or grade level. The exam questions are developed by test development specialists in consultation with active teachers. Test questions are reviewed regularly and any questions which become problematic are removed from subsequent versions of the exam. All of the test development efforts of the educational testing service are aimed at composing fair exams which give an accurate summary of the candidate's knowledge and skills. To this end, full summaries of the content on every exam are available at the Educational Testing Service, or ETS, website. Candidates are also advised to contact the ETS with any questions they have regarding the necessity of and protocol for taking an exam. Individuals can register for the Praxis II exams either online, by phone, or by mail.
