NET Exam, Part 2
The Nurse Entrance Test (NET) is used for admission into nursing programs. Successful candidates must possess the following skills:
- Candidates will be tested on science reading skills. Passages to read and multiple-choice questions to answer are included.
- Candidates will be tested on basic math, including whole and partial numbers, number conversions and algebra. Candidates are given a time period of one minute for every question in the math section.
- Candidates need to be able to read college-level material quickly. The test will gauge the best way that candidates study and learn.
- Candidates will be tested on writing skills, including traditional writing conventions of grammar, capitalization, construction of complete sentences, writing organization and spelling.
- Candidates will be tested on science vocabulary and concepts in the subjects of biology, anatomy/physiology, cellular biology and chemistry.
All of these knowledge areas are necessary in order to succeed with a nursing program. This test gives candidates a gauge of personal ability to succeed academically. The outcome will give candidates and their teachers and academic leaders information regarding areas of needed improvement. The test is not meant to make it impossible for candidates to go to nursing school; rather, it is meant as an aid to find out which areas may need to be developed prior to beginning a nursing program.
