You may not be familiar with the HOBET, but if you're hoping for a career in the field of health you need to know about it. HOBET stands for Health Occupation Basic Entrance Test, and you may well be required to take it and pass it before being allowed into certain health related jobs, such as nurse or emergency medical technician, or a course or program of study leading to a job in these fields. Employers and educators need to know that a person has the minimum qualifications necessary in order to learn the health related job, or to study and do well in a health related degree or diploma program. It doesn't help anyone involved to accept applicants who aren't qualified to handle the work or study. To avoid lots of wasted time and disappointment, these educators and employers now use HOBET to screen potential candidates.
The HOBET is not a test of a person's knowledge of health or biology. It's a test of general knowledge and aptitudes. If you take the HOBET, you'll be tested on your math skills, reading speed and comprehension, critical thinking skills, test taking skills, etc. The HOBET will also test your learning styles, your skills at getting along with others, and how well you handle stress. It's a fairly extensive test, and will take around three hours to complete. The HOBET is almost all multiple choice questions, and you will take it on a computer, not with pencil and paper. If you're required to take the HOBET, your school will let you know, and they'll have the dates, locations, times, and fees. You'll want to be well prepared before attempting to take the HOBET. If it would turn out that you don't pass it, you are allowed to take it again, but there is a six month waiting period. That would certainly be a setback to your career goals. So don't take any chances-get a good prep course and study guide before attempting the HOBET.
