Dental School

Those of you who want to make dentistry your chosen career will attend a dental school that offers you a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) program. There are many good dental schools from which you can choose. These schools provide you with a strong education in the biomedical sciences coupled with a clinical education that is put to work in patient practice. A good dental school will use innovative methods to teach you the biomedical, clinical and behavioral sciences as well as giving you an understanding of how dental health affects a person's overall health.

As a dental student you will have much experience with patients, usually from the first year of study. Your clinical experience will include emergency care as well as specialized care for patients with special needs. The education and experience you receive as you attend a dental school will prepare you for the responsibilities of a dental practice, and if you choose to continue with advanced dental education programs, you will be ready for them.

The courses you take to get your dental degree will include some required courses and some electives. The courses include general pathology, neurological science, physiology, gross anatomy, pediatric dentistry, pharmacology, radiology and much more. When you graduate from dental school you will be ready for a dental practice and prepared to make your contribution to the community.
