ACT Exam Review
The ACT exam is one of the most widely used college entrance exams in the United States-almost everyone who applies for admission to a college or university will be asked to take either the ACT or the SAT. In fact, more and more colleges and universities are starting to prefer the ACT, as they think that a student's scores on the ACT do a better job of predicting success in college than any other test available. It's standardized test, which means that the vast majority of the questions will be multiple choice. However, there is an optional Writing Test, which requires you to write an essay. That test is known as the ACT Plus Writing, and it's important to be clear on which one you're signing up to take. There is a fee to take the ACT exam; as of this writing it costs $29 to sit for the test. Currently, there's an additional $14 fee to take the ACT Plus Writing. The test is given five times a year across America-in October, December, February, April and June. There is no age requirement and anyone may sign up for the test. But it's recommended that high school students take it late in their junior year or early in their senior year to facilitate the college application process. Of course, you'll need to sign up early to get the test date you want. The test itself is 215 multiple questions on reading, science, math, and English, and it takes about three and a half hours to complete. You are allowed to use a basic calculator for the math portion of the ACT, but you'll want to check to make sure that yours is allowed as the ACT has very strict and technical rules as to what kind of calculator is allowed and what kind isn't. Taking the ACT is an important stepping stone to your college career, and you shouldn't take it lightly. Get some good study and prep materials and make use of them, as your results on the ACT will have far reaching and long lasting effects on your college career.
